Applied Ultrasonics

"Applied Ultrasonics Australia (AUA) has used Ultrasonic Impact Technology (UIT) on a number of bridges for the Road and Traffic Authority for NSW. The completed repairs where UIT was used have had a significant life extension beyond original expectations."

Applied Ultrasonics started in Australia in 2009. It is the Australian partner of US based Applied Ultrasonics.

Applied Ultrasonics (US) was founded in 1997 by a group of professionals who had expertise in the steel, general engineering and manufacturing industries. With the technology they saw an opportunity to use it to advance these industries particularly in critical infrastructure maintenance areas.

The technology known as UIT (Ultrasonic Impact Technology) was first developed in the 1970’s by Dr. Efim Statnikov to strengthen the hulls of nuclear submarines. In the years up until his death in 2010 Dr. Statnikov led a team of scientists and engineers who continued to refine the technology to what it is today, a significant ultrasonic peening tool capable of meeting the demands of infrastructure, mining, oil and gas and other heavy manufacturing industries. It is used on metals such as steel, aluminium, titanium, iron and bronze.

As a result of the technical development the company owns 5 patents, 46 partner patent applications and has numerous patents pending.

UIT has been put through extensive testing and verification by many demanding research groups such as the Federal and State Highway authorities in the US, US Navy and the US Coast Guard, Nippon Steel, the Universities of Texas and Leigh and various welding institutes around the world.

Apart from its US and Australian operation Applied Ultrasonics has operations in Europe and Asia.

The Australian operation, Applied Ultrasonics Australia has its head office is in Belrose a northern Sydney suburb and its technical base in the Yarramalong Valley just west of Wyong in NSW.
